New health risks for Europeans in a fast-moving drug market

People who use drugs in Europe are facing new health risks as drug markets evolve rapidly and become more complex. This warning comes from the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) in its European Drug Report 2026: Trends and Developments, released today (1). ESCAPE syringe analysis highlights evolving patterns of injecting drug use in Europe

The latest patterns of injecting drug use in a selection of European cities are presented today in a new analysis from the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA). The findings are from the agency’s ESCAPE project (1), which investigates the substances used by people who inject drugs (PWID) by chemically analysing the content of used syringes.
