About the Addiction Reports Information Kit

Starting in 2021, the annual addiction reports are produced as an information package with one main summary report and several thematic reports.

Until 2020, the National Observatory on Drugs and Addictions produced 2 annual reports each year - on the state of drugs and on gambling.

In July 2021, the Government approved a new concept for an information package in this area. Instead of one report on drugs, which included a range of information on the use of legal substances, the NMS produced 4 thematic reports:

  • on tobacco
  • on alcohol
  • on problematic use of psychoactive substances
  • on illicit drugs.

The information from the sub-reports is always subsequently summarised in the Summary Report on Addictions in the Czech Republic - the first of these, the Summary Report on Addictions in the Czech Republic 2021, was submitted to the Government of the Czech Republic in April 2022 and then published.

The structure of each report is similar and follows the classic structure of the annual drug report, which has been produced since 2002. It therefore covers each topic in its entirety - from national policy and legislation, through supply and availability, rates and patterns of use, to health and social impacts, including crime. The reports also include information on prevention and treatment and, in 2021, the impact of COVID-19.

The reports are published during the year or at the beginning of the following year. Full reports (PDF) are available in only in Czech language. A summary of each report is available in English - either as a special issue of the Focused bulletin or as a simple summary.

Reports issued in 2021

In 2021, full information package on the addiction situation was prepared, with the exception of the report on digital addictions, which was first prepared in 2022.

Previously issued reports

Between 2015 and 2020, the National Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Addiction processed 2 annual reports each year - on the state of drug affairs and on gambling. Between 2002 and 2014, only an annual report on the drug situation was prepared.

Until 2014, the full text of the reports was also published in English. Since 2015, only a summary of the report has been published in English, either in the Focused bulletin or as a simple document available in the Reports on additions section.
