National Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Addiction

The Czech National Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Addictions (NMC; National Focal Point) is an organizational unit within the Secretariat of the Government Council for Policy Coordination of Addiction Policy.

Main tasks:

  • NMC coordinates the information system in the field of addictions in the Czech Republic, i.e. the system of collection, processing, reporting and distribution of information in the area of addictions, and for this purpose the NMC cooperates with state and non-state organizations and institutions, and at the same time conducts its own studies and analyses, the preparation of which is continuously consulted as needed with the Addiction Data Collection Advisory Committee. 
  • NMC processes information outputs and publications about the situation in the Czech Republic in the field of addictions, especially reports on the situation in the field of addictions, which it regularly submits to the Council, the government and the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction. In doing so, NMC cooperates with other state and non-state organizations and institutions within the information system in the field of addiction. 
  • NMC is the coordinator of the nationwide inter-ministerial and interdisciplinary information system "Early Warning System" (EWS), which enables the rapid exchange of information on the spread, use and risks of new psychoactive substances in the Czech Republic and provides suggestions for their possible legislative control.
