Overdose deaths in Europe: new EUDA resource flags cocaine, nitazenes and polysubstance use as growing concerns

Overdose continues to claim thousands of lives in Europe. In the run-up to International Overdose Awareness Day (31 August) (1), the EUDA has updated its resource ‘Frequently asked questions (FAQs): drug-induced deaths in Europe’. The resource highlights the scale of the problem and points to cocaine, new synthetic opioids (nitazenes) and polysubstance use as growing concerns. Drawing on the latest data from the 27 EU Member States, Norway and Türkiye, the FAQs answer the questions most often asked about overdose deaths in Europe. New European toolkit launched to help eliminate viral hepatitis B and C in prisons

The European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) have jointly produced a European toolkit for the elimination of viral hepatitis in prisons  . This new practical online resource, launched ahead of Prisoners’ Justice Day on 10 August, aims to support local efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis in prison settings, in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal on Good Health and Well-Being1.
